KINGS ISLAND, Ohio, 2013-04-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — Congo Falls, built by Intamin of Zurich, Switzerland, opened at Kings Island in 1988. The ride is located over a lake in the Action Zone area of the park. Huge Congo Falls boats – each nearly 16 feet long and carrying 20 passengers – climb steadily above tree level then glide along an 815-foot trough of water, which ends in a magnificent 50-foot waterfall.
The slashdown in the lake below creates a gigantic tidal wave that soaks not only the passengers but also those standing in selected areas watching the ride. Other features along the ride’s waterway include a geyser pool and mist-filled planted arbor.
Congo Falls has given 19,901,904 rides since its debut in 1988. The record year was its inaugural season when 1,363,753 rides were given.
Kings Island opens for the 2013 season Saturday, April 27.
Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Kings Island, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, four water parks, one indoor water park, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.
