JW Marriott Debuts Sustainable Beachfront Resort on Crete with Private-Pool Villas and Farm-to-Table Dining

(IN SHORT) JW Marriott has launched its first Mediterranean beach resort on Crete: JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa near Chania, featuring 160 rooms, suites and villas—most with private pools—across 100 acres of Aegean coastline. Designed by Block722, the energy-conscious resort integrates geothermal and solar technologies with local materials and planted roofs. Culinary offerings include six venues anchored by a JW Garden farm-to-table concept, open-fire Cretan dishes, sea-to-table seafood and bespoke mixology using garden-grown botanicals. ANOSEAS Spa merges traditional healing with modern treatments, supported by hydrotherapy facilities, pools and a yoga deck. The family-focused Phestos Den provides creative play and nature-based learning, complemented by bespoke cultural and sea excursions. Bruce Rohr highlights the property as a benchmark for JW Marriott’s commitment to design, sustainability and authentic guest experiences.

(PRESS RELEASE) BETHESDA, MD, 2025-Jun-13 — /Travel PR News/ — JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa, the brand’s inaugural Mediterranean beachfront destination, has opened its doors on Crete’s sun-drenched coast. Perched near Marathi and a short drive from Chania, the resort spans over 100 acres of Aegean shoreline and offers 160 stylishly designed rooms, suites and villas—most featuring private plunge pools and panoramic sea vistas. Meticulously crafted by Athens studio Block722, the property harmonizes contemporary architecture with Crete’s rugged landscape, incorporating planted roofs, olive groves and locally sourced marble and timber.

Sustainability lies at the heart of the resort’s design. Geothermal heating, solar arrays, heat-recovery from air-conditioning and gray-water irrigation systems minimize its environmental footprint. Interiors evoke the island’s palette through organic curves and hues of terracotta, olive, sand and stone, while bespoke ceramic accents and sculptural lighting pay homage to traditional Cretan craftsmanship.

Culinary experiences abound across six venues. The JW Garden supplies fresh herbs and vegetables for dishes and cocktails, underscoring the brand’s commitment to wellness and farm-to-table sourcing. ANOEE showcases open-fire Cretan fare under chef Manolis Papoutsakis, while Õnalos celebrates Aegean seafood. Guests can also savor contemporary Italian at Cuccagna, share Mediterranean small plates at Fayi, or unwind with light bites and bespoke Cretan-botanical mixology at Suncti by the Pool and Eēxis.

Well-being is elevated at ANOSEAS Spa, where five treatment suites combine ancient Cretan healing rituals with modern therapies, alongside hydrotherapy circuits, a yoga deck and four infinity pools overlooking the sea. A family-friendly enclave, the Phestos Den by Worldwide Kids, stimulates younger guests through nature-inspired play zones, creative workshops and a dedicated vegetable garden. Off-site, curated excursions—from boat trips along the coast to visits to monasteries and archaeological sites—immerse families in Crete’s rich heritage.

Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader for JW Marriott, remarks, “This resort embodies our philosophy of thoughtful design and heartfelt service in a location of extraordinary beauty. We invite guests to slow down, connect with nature and discover the timeless spirit of Crete.”
