London, UK, 2019-Mar-06 — /Travel PR News/ — Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, the boutique gem nestled in the heart of London’s Belgravia, is marking the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s birth with a Victorian-inspired Penny Farthing and Picnic package.
The once-in-a-lifetime experience includes a quintessentially British picnic hamper prepared by the hotel’s chefs, alongside the opportunity to learn to ride a classic Penny Farthing bicycle to Buckingham Palace with London cycling experts, Tally Ho Experiences.
The Victorians may not have invented the picnic but it was during Queen Victoria’s reign that dining outdoors became popular. Inside the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel picnic hampers, guests will find a feast fit for a King or Queen, including cold cuts, dainty triangular sandwiches and Victoria sponge.
Nearby Hyde Park makes the perfect location for settling down to an al fresco lunch. Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel will even deliver, set up and collect the picnic hamper from the park so guests can simply relax.
The Penny Farthing is one of many icons of Victorian engineering and an amazing part of British heritage. It was the first contraption to be called a “bicycle” and was eventually eclipsed by the modern bicycle. This distinctive mode of transport can be tricky to master, not least because of the size of the front wheel and height of the saddle! Thankfully, expert help is on hand courtesy of Tally Ho Experiences’ instructors who will guide guests through the art of safely mounting, riding and dismounting a Penny Farthing in one of London’s quiet historic squares. Once accomplished, those with an adventurous spirit will have the chance to cycle across London and up to Buckingham Palace on an unforgettable Penny Farthing expedition.
The Penny Farthing and Picnic package will be available from 14 April 2019 on certain dates throughout the year at a cost of £165 per person. Picnics can be ordered separately for £40 per person. An additional charge of £30 per group applies for delivery, set-up and collection to Hyde Park. Bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Guests looking for a private group experience can arrange a personalised Penny Farthing training session with Tally Ho Experiences through the hotel concierge team.
