JOIN NATIONAL ZOO EXPERTS FOR A SPECIAL EVENING EXPLORING THE GAMBA COMPLEX IN AFRICA

2013-01-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — If you have visited the Cheetah Conservation Station at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo lately, you may have noticed new red river hog or sitatunga, and wondered: what are they? All your questions will be answered Jan. 11 at the special event, “Teeming with Life: Bringing Gabon to the National Zoo,” from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Join Smithsonian’s National Zoo scientist Alfonso Alonso and learn more about this little known—but immensely diverse—part of Africa: Gabon’s Gamba Complex. Alonso will be joined on stage by animal keeper Gil Myers, and Zoo veterinarian Chris Whittier, for a panel discussion about other Gabon-related research projects at the Zoo and what it’s like to care for the new animals.

Tickets include complimentary beer, wine, soda and light hors d’oeuvres. Guests can speak with keepers and scientists one-on-one about conservation efforts at the Zoo and abroad. Tickets for FONZ members are $15 and $20 for non-members. They can be purchased through the Zoo’s website. All proceeds for “Teeming with Life” support efforts to improve the Cheetah Conservation Station and bring new African wildlife species to the Zoo.
