2013-05-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — In celebration of the International Museums Day 2013, Jersey Heritage is set to host the ultimate sleepover adventure later this month, as families and children are offered a rare opportunity to stay overnight at Mont Orgueil Castle.
The sleepover, which will take place on Saturday 18th May, will host a variety of exciting historic activities, storytelling and trails which encourage families to explore and experience the castle as never before.
Night of Museums
The Night of Museums is an annual event, which takes place across Europe in association with International Museum Day, when museums, libraries and galleries across 40 different European countries open their doors for special after-hour events, activities, tours and exhibitions, designed to encourage a new generation to enjoy cultural experiences through fresh and innovative ways.
Helen Otterwell, Family Events Coordinator at Jersey Heritage commented: ‘We are delighted to be hosting this thrilling family event at the castle in celebration of International Museums Day. Jersey’s history and culture is so rich and colourful and it is vital that we encourage the younger generation to engage with it through fun and exciting ways. The Museum’s at Night initiative has been growing in popularity across Europe over the last few years so we were determined to bring this experience to Islanders to enjoy.’
Mont Orgueil Castle is steeped in local history, myths and legends which are set to come to life for this special evening of family fun. As the gates close and the lights dim, the overnight castle guests will be free to explore the castle hallways and hidden rooms with torches in search of adventure, before tucking in and falling asleep in the darkened rooms of the fortress.
