Traditionally exclusive to First Class, the premium shochu will be served in Business Class for the first time on December 15, 2024, marking the anniversary of the beverage’s 1986 debut. Crafted with high-quality ingredients and traditional methods, “Mori-Izo” is renowned for its refined taste and limited availability. (PRESS RELEASE) Tokyo, Japan, 2024-Nov-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Japan Airlines (JAL) and Mori-Izo Shuzo Co., Ltd. are commemorating the 25th anniversary of their collaboration, which began in 1998, to offer the premium shochu “Mori-Izo” to inflight customers. Traditionally available exclusively in First Class, JAL will for the first time extend this offering to international Business Class passengers for a one-day celebration on December 15, 2024—the anniversary of the shochu’s initial release in 1986.
About Shochu “Mori-Izo”
Known for its limited production and exceptional quality, Shochu “Mori-Izo” is crafted with meticulous care. Using hand-selected Kogane Sengan sweet potatoes and naturally filtered soft water from the Shirasu plateau, the shochu is fermented with robust native yeast through the traditional “Kame-tsubo” method. The result is a smooth, aromatic drink cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
Exclusive One-Day Offering
Passengers traveling in First or Business Class on flights departing Japan on December 15, 2024, can enjoy Shochu “Mori-Izo” on select international routes, including destinations in North America, Europe, Oceania, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Availability is limited and will be served until stocks are depleted.
Celebrating a Legacy of Excellence
Shochu “Mori-Izo” debuted in JAL’s international inflight sales in 1998, offered in a specially designed 720ml bottle. Over the years, limited-edition varieties such as the three-year-aged “Gokujo Mori-Izo” and the ten-year-aged “Rakusui Kishu Mori-Izo” have garnered acclaim. To mark the 25th anniversary, a twelve-year-aged version of “Mori-Izo” has been introduced.
Upcoming Sales and Special Offers
As part of the celebration, JAL will offer advanced reservation sales of the premium Raku Suiki Shu “Mori-Izo” to JMB Diamond and JGC Premier members. Priced at JPY 40,000, the bottles will be available for reservation starting November 25, 2024, and limited to one bottle per customer per flight.
Additionally, Shochu “Mori-Izo” will return to inflight sales on select international routes in spring 2025.
A Toast to Tradition and Innovation
“This milestone reflects our commitment to showcasing Japan’s finest products to our global customers,” said a JAL spokesperson. “We are honored to celebrate this partnership with Mori-Izo and look forward to continuing to provide extraordinary experiences that reflect Japanese craftsmanship and culture.”
