Jan Molby cuts the ribbon on Norwegian’s inaugural service from JLA to Copenhagen

2013-04-05 — /travelprnews.com/ — Former Danish International and Liverpool FC legend Jan Molby today helped Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) celebrate the first Norwegian service to Copenhagen.

Celebrations commenced with a traditional arch of water aircraft ‘baptism’ performed by the Airport’s Emergency Response Service to welcome the arrival of Norwegian’s first aircraft to Liverpool. This was followed by each arriving passenger receiving red and white Airport scarves and tourism information for the Liverpool City Region, presented by members of Airport support group, The Friends of Liverpool Airport.

Both Captain Peter Owens and First Officer Neil Robinson who were flying the aircraft come from Liverpool and were specially chosen by Norwegian to operate this first flight by the airline to and from their home city.

Ahead of the first departure, Jan Molby who is an adopted ‘Scouser’ and lives on Merseyside, then cut the ribbon at the steps of the aircraft prior to passengers boarding the first flight out to Copenhagen, capital city of his home country Denmark.

Having departed from the Airport, as a special treat for passengers, Captain Peter Owens and First Officer Neil Robinson then flew over Aintree on Ladies Day before heading to Copenhagen.

Norwegian is Europe’s third largest low cost airline and will operate their service three times each week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Matthew Thomas, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “This has been a great occasion and this tremendous welcome given to Norwegian has clearly demonstrated how keen both the Airport and the various key stakeholders from across the region are to work with them and make this route a success. We are determined to give Liverpool and the City Region the Airport it deserves, attracting more airlines and more destinations and today is a great example of what such new business can bring to the region.”

Jan Molby is still a huge superstar in Denmark and his help today will certainly raise the profile of this route within Denmark and the opportunity to come and visit the Liverpool City Region direct from Copenhagen.” Matthew continued.

Johan Bisgaard Larsen, Information Manager for Norwegian in Denmark added, “For Norwegian it is very exciting that we’re opening this direct route between Liverpool and Copenhagen. We have continuously experienced an interest in this route, so it is very positive that we can send the first flight on its way today. Norwegian has high expectations for the route, and we very much look forward to welcoming passengers on board our new aircraft with free WiFi.”
