Highlights Include Self-Service Bag Drops and Facial Recognition Technology
Tokyo, Japan, 2019-Oct-21 — /Travel PR News/ — As tourism in Japan is expected to increase in the coming years, JAL is in the process of revising its international airport services at Narita Airport to address the diverse needs of customers around the world. By introducing JAL SMART AIRPORT in 2020, the facility will feature self-service bag drops and facial recognition technology to shorten the time required to board an aircraft.
In addition to these improvements, JAL completed renovations at their First and Business Class lounges at Narita airport. With these changes in place, the carrier looks to deliver greater customer convenience at Narita airport and welcome additional visitors to Japan.
1. Introduction of Self-Service Bag Drop Systems at Narita Airport 1
Beginning October 28, JAL`s customers will be able to check baggage smoothly through the self-service bag drop system. Travelers will be invited to check-in through the airport kiosk and print out their individual baggage tags. Once complete, the traveler can simply drop off their baggage and head toward the boarding gate.

Deployment Area: Narita Airport Terminal 2 – Counter O
Note: Service at Counter M will open in April 2020
2. Launch of “OneID” – New Service using Facial Recognition Technology 2
In the spring of 2020, JAL will implement facial recognition technology services at Narita Airport. During the initial check-in process, travelers will have an option to register their photo. Once completed, travelers can proceed through security and board the aircraft without presenting travel documents. As the first airport in Japan to introduce the system, Narita Airport will feature an innovative boarding style that will ensure a smoother airport experience.

Deployment Area: Narita Airport Terminal 2 – Counter K, Security Screening Entrance, Boarding Gate
3. Upgrade of JAL Special Assistance Counter
A new special assistance counter will be introduced for travelers who request assistance at the airport. To insure a comfortable and stress-free trip, JAL will continue to provide accessible services for all travelers.

4. Renovation of JAL First and Business Class Lounge
Since the beginning of 2019, JAL has continually renovated the lounges to provide an elegant and sophisticated experience at Narita airport. Featuring a modern Japanese design, JAL looks to pamper travelers before departing to their destination of choice.
