JAL Mileage Bank Membership Reaches 25 Million

Thanking customers for making JMB the largest frequent flyer program in Japan

TOKYO, 2012-10-11 — /travelprnews.com/ — The frequent-flyer program of the JAL Group – JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) recently welcomed the registration of its 25 millionth member. To commemorate this significant milestone and in gratitude to all its customers for their unwavering support and loyalty, JAL will launch a mileage campaign called “Thanks to 25 Million JMB Members!”

In November 1983, JAL became the first Japanese airline to launch a frequent flyer program in the US, under the name “JAL Mileage Bank USA”. As it grew in scale and reach over the years, JAL aligned all its overseas and Japan programs in 1996, collectively renaming it “JAL Mileage Bank (JMB)”. Since then, JMB rapidly gained recognition and popularity, and membership numbers soared to 15 million in 2003 and to more than 20 million in 2007. Today, with the patronage of over 25 million members, JMB has become the largest* frequent flyer program in Japan. (*as of March, 2012)

A highlight of this campaign is a charity project called “Let’s Encourage Tohoku with Mile Donation Project” that aims to bring smiles to the faces of the children of Tohoku with the joys of travel. For this cause, JAL will contribute 15 million miles and solicit donations (in units of 2,500 miles) from JMB members around the world and through a sweepstake, 250 or more families that were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake will receive 100,000 miles per household from the donation drive.

JAL will also conduct a series of other promotions under the “Thanks to 25 Million JMB Members!” campaign, such as offering customers an upgrade from Economy to Business Class on international routes scheduled to be operated with the 787 Dreamliner and select domestic flights, utilizing miles at a discounted rate, for departures between November 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013. Promotions will be announced as they are being rolled out. For more details and updates, visit: www.jal.co.jp/jmb/25million/index_en_world.html
