JAPAN
Surfing debuts at Tokyo Olympic & Paralympic Games
Japan has a thriving surfing scene that grows in popularity every year. With four main islands of immense diversity and countless smaller ones of varying shapes and sizes, there are plenty of opportunities for intrepid overseas surfers. No matter your skill level or board style, Japan has something special for everyone. Surfing will make its Olympic debut at Tokyo Olympic & Paralympic Games, and efforts are being made to enhance the facilities for competitors. Shidashita Beach in Chiba Prefecture is the contest site due to its renowned waves and easy accessibility from Tokyo. Elsewhere, Ichiyumi Point off Kyushu Island is said to be the single best place in Japan to surf, thanks to the typhoon swells and rippable walls. https://www.japan.travel/en/uk/
Surfs up in Hachinohe, Japan
Located along the northeast coast of Honshu Islands, Hachinohe hosts a number of excellent surf spots. Ohsuka surf spot is situated on the north of the scenic Tanesashi Beach hosting a shallow and vast beach break that can be enjoyed by beginners. Additionally, it’s shallow beach break reacts sensitively to north to east swells making it an excellent recommendation for intermediate surfers. A little further south of Ohsuka surf spot visitors can find the Tanesashi surf spot, this is an excellent spot for year round surfing with constant waves throughout the year. In particular, in winter when the north swell generated by the west high and east low pressure system is expected to further increase the size. www.visithachinohe.com
