Indianapolis International Airport welcomes Frontier Airlines’ nonstop flights to Austin

Flight will further connect Indianapolis to Central Texas

INDIANAPOLIS, 2018-Feb-16 — /Travel PR News/ — When it comes to the Indianapolis International Airport (IND), one thing is for certain: You can get there from here — especially if you’re headed to Austin, Texas. This week Frontier Airlines announced it will add a nonstop flight out of Indy to Austin, giving travelers yet another option to get to the Texas hot spot.

The inaugural Frontier flight will launch on April 10, 2018.

In May 2017, Allegiant Air launched their inaugural nonstop flight to Austin – the first direct flight to the once unserved destination. Allegiant’s twice weekly flights depart from Indianapolis on Monday and Friday mornings to the Lone Star state. Southwest Airlines will also be launching a seasonal nonstop service to Austin on Sundays in April 2018 – two days before Frontier’s service begins.

“A year ago, Austin was one of our top-five unserved markets,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “But with today’s announcement, we have three airlines offering nonstop flights into Austin, giving travelers more direct access to the Central Texas region.”

Rodriguez said Central Texas is a draw for both business and leisure travelers looking for a conference and event destination that features world-class music and food, and caters to the technology industry.

Earlier this month, Frontier announced seasonal nonstop service to Philadelphia. The inaugural flight will launch on April 9, 2018, and will be departing Indianapolis on Mondays and Fridays.

The Indianapolis airport averages 145 daily flights to 51 nonstop destinations, and provides access to 400 destinations with only a one-stop connection — making the Indy airport among the top 10 most-connected medium-sized airports in the United States.

With more connections to unserved and underserved markets, the Indianapolis airport set an historical record in passenger activity in 2017, with more than 8.77 million travelers flying through Indy. This is a 3-percent increase over 2016 passenger traffic.
