(IN SHORT) IHG Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Action Against Hunger to combat global food insecurity. The partnership will fund child malnutrition programs and allow guests to donate rewards points to support these initiatives, as part of IHG’s broader commitment to improving global food security.
(PRESS RELEASE) London, UK, 2024-Aug-2 — /Travel PR News/ — IHG Hotels & Resorts, a leading global hotel company, has announced a multi-year partnership with the international NGO Action Against Hunger. This collaboration aims to address food insecurity and hunger affecting millions worldwide.
With one in three people globally uncertain about their next meal due to poverty, conflict, inefficient food systems, and climate change, IHG is committed to supporting food security through its extensive network of hotels in over 100 countries. This initiative is part of IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow responsible business plan, which aims to improve the lives of 30 million people.
Action Against Hunger has been at the forefront of preventing, detecting, and treating hunger through its screen, treat, and sustain programs across East Africa, Central Africa, West Africa, Asia, the Americas, the Middle East, and Europe. IHG will support and fund these programs, focusing on early detection of malnutrition in children and providing life-saving treatment through community outreach initiatives.
In addition to funding, IHG will raise awareness about food insecurity among millions of its guests worldwide. Starting today, guests can donate IHG One Rewards points to support Action Against Hunger. For example, 10,000 points can screen approximately 124 children for malnutrition, and 7,500 points can provide nutritious food for a malnourished child for six weeks.
Elie Maalouf, CEO of IHG Hotels & Resorts, stated, “Food is central to our hospitality, nourishing people and communities. Sadly, food remains in short supply for millions, despite there being enough to feed everyone. By partnering with Action Against Hunger, we aim to create lasting change and help build a world where everyone is nourished, welcomed, and respected.”
Ashwini Kakkar, Chair of Action Against Hunger International Network, added, “We have the ability to end chronic hunger for everyone. This vision requires bold action, and we are grateful for IHG’s leadership in advancing this vital cause. Hunger hampers millions from reaching their full potential. IHG’s support will significantly advance our efforts to ensure every life is well-nourished.”
This partnership aligns with IHG’s purpose of providing True Hospitality for Good and complements existing initiatives in local markets to strengthen food systems, reduce food waste, and divert surplus food to those in need. IHG’s current partnerships focused on food security include collaborations with local food banks, No Kid Hungry in the US, OzHarvest in Australia, and Too Good To Go in Europe.
