IATA to host the sixth annual Ops Conference on 13-15 April in Los Angeles, California

Geneva, 2015-3-17 — /Travel PR News/ — The International Air Transport Association (IATA) will host the sixth annual Ops Conference (Ops Conference 2015), 13-15 April in Los Angeles, California. More than 300 high-level delegates from airlines, regulators, air navigation service providers, airports, manufacturers and systems providers are expected to attend the event.

“Safety is aviation’s top priority and aviation is the safest form of long-distance transportation ever invented. In large part this is owing to the culture of cooperation and partnership that has been a part of aviation since its birth. No matter how hard we may compete commercially, all stakeholders are united in their dedication to safety. The Ops Conference provides an opportunity to share global best practices, to identify and address emerging challenges, and to work together through global standards to make aviation even safer,” said Tony Tyler, IATA’s Director General and CEO.

Tyler will participate in the Leadership Panel at the Ops Conference that also will feature Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO); Michael Huerta, Administrator of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); Jeff Poole, Director General, Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO); Gina Marie Lindsey, Executive Director, Los Angeles World Airports; and Kevin Hiatt, IATA Senior Vice-President, Safety & Flight Operations.

Subject areas to be covered during the Ops Conference include aircraft tracking; reducing the risk of over-flying conflict zones; cockpit automation and human-machine interfaces; reducing operational risks such as loss of control, controlled flight into terrain and runway overruns; air traffic management interoperability and harmonization; and advancing evidence-based training. Marcos Pontes, the first Brazilian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station, will deliver a closing address on the challenges of commercial spaceflight.

Pre-Conference Workshops will address:

  • Performance-based Safety and Oversight – The Role of Safety Data
  • Loss of Control In-Flight – Risks and Mitigation Measures
  • Sustainable Fuel Efficiency
  • System-Wide Information Management (SWIM) – Challenges, Opportunities, Enablers and Tools
