Hotel Nikko Bali Restores Coastal Areas by Planting Mangroves at Ecotourism Mangrove Wanasari Tuban, Kuta

Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, 2022-Jul-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Not just on paper but it turns into action to preserve the environment for a better future life. After planting Indian-Almond trees and releasing the sea turtle hatchlings, Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach is running its sustainability program to restore the coastal area by planting mangrove trees.

The SoS (Save our Seas) Team, the official sustainability team at the resort planted 25 Rhizophora Mangrove tree seedlings at the Ecotourism Mangrove Wanasari Tuban, Kuta on Thursday, 28 July 2022.

“The main purpose of the event is, apart from the location of our hotel is in the coastal area and commemorating the International Day of for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, as we all know that tidal floods often occur and to prevent something worse, we took the initiative to plant mangrove trees to protect the coastlines by breaking ocean waves during storm surges and help seagrass beds and coral reefs from the effects of siltation.” Said Masaya Hasebe, General Manager of Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach.

He added, “We understand that this is a small step from us, but with passion, commitment, and consistency, we ensure it gives a positive impact on the environment that will be felt by future generations. Mangrove forests nurture our estuaries and fuel our nature-based economies. Conservation of carbon-rich mangroves in the Indonesian archipelago should be a high-priority component of strategies to mitigate climate change. Why did we choose Ecotourism Mangrove Wanasari Tuban, Kuta? Because we see the enthusiasm of the Wanasari fishermen to build the economy in their area independently with mangrove crab cultivation cages. And, after successfully cultivating mangrove crabs, these fishermen are also aware of protecting the habitat and ecosystem of the mangrove forest which is now known as the Ecotourism Mangrove Wanasari Tuban, Kuta. That is one of the reasons we decided to participate in preserving the coastal area by planting mangroves here as it is aligned to our sustainability program.”

Furthermore, mangroves not only protect coastal areas from various natural damages, however, Agus Diana, secretary of the Ecotourism Mangrove Wanasari Tuban, Kuta also informed that several types of mangroves can be processed into soap, chips/ pastries, syrup, coffee, and even into natural batik dyes.
