(PRESS RELEASE) Tokyo, Japan, 2024-Dec-17 — /Travel PR News/ — IHG Hotels & Resorts has celebrated the opening of Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street, marking the fifth Hotel Indigo in Japan and the brand’s first presence in Kyushu. Officially launched on December 13, 2024, the hotel is located in Nagasaki’s vibrant Minamiyamate area, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and historical landmarks such as the Old Glover Residence, a World Heritage Site, and Oura Tenshudo, a designated national treasure.
Housed in a meticulously restored 19th-century redbrick building, the hotel blends contemporary luxury with the city’s historical charm. True to the Hotel Indigo ethos of neighborhood storytelling, the property offers an immersive experience that draws inspiration from Nagasaki’s unique fusion of Japanese, Chinese, and Dutch cultures, encapsulated in the “Wa-Ka-Ran Labyrinth” philosophy.
The hotel features 66 bespoke guestrooms, each reflecting the liveliness of Nagasaki’s streets, and a grand lobby reminiscent of the social gatherings of past merchants. Guests can also enjoy the restaurant Cathedréclat, housed in a former cathedral with 10-meter ceilings and striking stained-glass windows that create a dramatic dining ambiance.
The opening ceremony, themed “Open the Umbrella,” incorporated traditional Nagasaki-patterned umbrellas to symbolize the city’s historical significance as the first place in Japan to adopt Western-style umbrellas. This symbolic gesture tied the city’s past to its bright future, celebrating the hotel as a bridge between history and modernity.
As part of IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio, Hotel Indigo continues its global growth, with 162 properties open worldwide. Upcoming openings include the brand’s first ventures into Micronesia with Hotel Indigo Palau and New Zealand with Hotel Indigo Auckland in 2025.
Guests at Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street can also enjoy IHG One Rewards, providing opportunities to earn and redeem points with personalized benefits, ensuring a seamless and enriching stay.
