Hotel Alsik in Sønderborg to become the largest hotel in the southern border region of Denmark

Copenhagen, Denmark, 2016-Nov-30 — /Travel PR News/ — The prominent hotel construction, designed and shaped by Denmark’s renowned Henning Larsen  Architects, is part of acclaimed architect Frank Gehry’s exciting master plan for the southerly Danish city. A plan that will see Sønderborg’s waterfront area transform into an exciting district with residential homes, office spaces and multifunctional public areas.

As a future 4star, Hotel Alsik is expected to be hugely beneficial to Sønderborg by generating growth and attract more leisure and business tourism to the area. With Alsik, the hotel capacity in Sønderborg will double and the city’s image as a small, yet highly attractive business events destination will be boosted  even further.

With an elegant and distinctive shape, Alsik is said to become a ‘living sculpture’. It comprises 190 rooms, three restaurants, conference facilities for up to 400 persons plus spa services – all taking its point of departure built on energy efficient and sustainable solutions and is expected to operate with high occupancy rates from day one.

A 70m tall tower will offer impressive panoramic views of ancient and modern Sønderborg and its scenic surrounding landscape, including the lively strait of Alssund. Alsik is expected to open its doors to the public in late 2018.

Putting Sønderborg on the map

Already, the Danish border region boasts a wide range of prominent establishments and business, including; Air service between Copenhagen and Sønderborg run by Alsie Express at Sønderborg Airport, a 5star science park Danfoss Universe, a unique historic site Dybbøl, and a well-regarded university University of Southern Denmark with core competencies within ICT and biotechnology.

Similarly, Sønderborg municipality was named ‘Project Zero’ Price Winner (with the vision of creating a CO2neutral growth area by 2029) in as early as 2010, This was due to the city’s ambitious ‘zero carbon master plan’, and Frank Gehry’s masterplan of Sønderborg, including Alsik, is part of the same Project Zero strategy too.

This particular area of southern Denmark is also native country for global sustainable technology  companies such as Danfoss a global producer of products and services used in areas such as cooling food, air conditioning, heating buildings, controlling electric motors, etc. and Linak – a global producer of key  components for wind turbines and solar PV installations tracking the sun. Hence, the area is now a  world-class example of how a rather little known Danish municipality, has managed to put itself firmly on the world map, and has proved that it is possible to attract visionary investments ready for leisure and business travellers to enjoy outside major cities too!
