Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Top Seven Air Travel Tips for Busy Holiday Season

Halifax, N.S. – 2012-12-18 — /travelprnews.com/ — It’s Halifax Stanfield International Airport’s holiday wish that passengers have a happy, low-stress travel experience.

“The period around Christmas and New Year is one of the busiest travel seasons,” says Tom Ruth, Halifax International Airport Authority President & CEO. “Travelling over the holidays is exciting, however it can also be a stressful time. That’s why we want to help air travellers to be as prepared as possible before they arrive here at Halifax Stanfield.” he says.

1. Allow a Little Extra Time

Allow extra time to accommodate winter driving conditions; to find a parking spot at the  airport, if needed; for airline check-in; to move through airport security; and for the  unexpected.

2. Please Do Not Wrap Your Gifts

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) recommends travellers not  wrap gifts as their contents may need to be inspected.

Because gift wrapping is not recommended, Halifax Stanfield is offering a gift wrapping service post security for those domestic passengers travelling to a non-stop destination. Volunteers will provide the service from December 18 – 24, at various times throughout the day. Donations will be collected for Feed Nova Scotia at the gift wrapping station.

3. Parking

There are a variety of parking choices and payment options at Halifax Stanfield. The  covered parkade with pedway offers hourly and daily rates. In addition to the parkade,  other parking options include the exterior parking lot in front of the terminal building,  and the Park’N Fly lot.

4. Transportation to Airport

Taxis, limos and Metro Transit are available for those not wishing to leave a car at the  airport.

5. Weather

Airlines may adjust their flight schedules due to winter weather conditions here and/or  elsewhere. Travellers are advised to check with their airline directly and visit  www.flyhalifax.com for the latest flight information.

6. Airport Security

For security and congestion reasons, vehicles cannot be left unattended at the curbside in front of the terminal building. Unattended vehicles may be ticketed and towed at owner’s expense.

7. Pack Smart

CATSA screening officers are responsible for ensuring passenger security. Passengers themselves play an important role at checkpoints, as their cooperation and understanding help keep the screening lines flowing.

Travellers should also pay particular attention to the regulations regarding liquids, aerosols and gels.

Pack liquids, aerosols and gels (sunscreen, hair gel, perfume, etc.) in checked baggage. These items are only allowed in carry-on luggage when packed in containers  with a capacity of 100 ml / 100 grams (3.4 oz.) or less. The containers must fit  comfortably in one clear, closed and re-sealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more  than 1 litre (1 quart). One bag per person is allowed.
