CHICAGO, 2012-10-2 — /travelprnews.com/ — On your mark…Get set…Go! to the “Run on the Runway” website now to register for the ORD 5K on the Runway and Community Day at O’Hare.
On Saturday, October 20, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) will host a 5K on the Runway and Community Day, presented by United Airlines, at O’Hare International Airport from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. People of all ages including runners, walkers, and aviation enthusiasts, are invited to visit one of the world’s busiest airports to experience a runway up-close and personal from the ground level.
The free outdoor Community Day event will feature food vendors, live music, entertainment and fun activities for kids and families – including a kids race, trolley rides to the runway and exhibits featuring specialized aircraft and airport equipment.
The 5K “Run on the Runway” at O’Hare will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which raises awareness of the needs of injured military service members. The registration fee for the 5K is $35 until October 10, and $40 after that date.
The 5K course will take participants onto O’Hare’s northernmost east-west parallel runway. Runners will witness amazing visuals along the way, including a United Airlines aircraft parked on the airfield, an air traffic control tower, and planes lifting off and descending upon the airfield. Bring your camera -once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities will abound.
