(NEWS) FORT WORTH, TX, 2026-Jan-05 — /Travel PR News/ — A century after a single mail flight departed Chicago for St. Louis, American Airlines is beginning a year-long celebration marking 100 years of flight, inviting customers to take part in a milestone that traces the evolution of one of aviation’s most recognisable brands. According to the airline’s announcement, commemorations officially begin now and will continue throughout 2026, highlighting American’s journey from its early air mail roots to its current position as the world’s largest airline by passenger numbers. The centennial celebrations are designed to be visible and experiential, weaving the airline’s history into everyday travel moments across its network.
Central to the anniversary is a specially designed centennial aircraft, with a Boeing 737 set to debut a commemorative livery that blends American’s heritage with a forward-looking design language. The aircraft features silver infinity rings near the tail, symbolising continuity and future possibilities, while a newly created centennial logo will appear across the customer journey—from digital booking platforms and airport signage to inflight entertainment screens and onboard merchandise. As outlined in the press materials, the airline will also place a centennial decal on more than 1,500 aircraft, ensuring the anniversary is marked on flights across its global operation.
Beyond visual elements, American plans to roll out limited-edition inflight offerings throughout the year, including special amenity kits, sleepwear, and curated dining touches. A dedicated centennial microsite has also been launched, offering travellers and aviation enthusiasts a deeper look into the airline’s past, from its pioneering role in air cargo and airport lounges to the introduction of the AAdvantage programme and the evolution of premium travel experiences such as Flagship Suite seating. Complementing these efforts, new and reissued Citi AAdvantage Mastercard credit cards will feature a limited-edition centennial design, extending the celebration beyond the aircraft cabin. Taken together, the initiatives reflect how American Airlines is using its centennial not only to honour its legacy, but to reinforce its long-standing emphasis on innovation, connectivity, and the future of air travel.
