Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita launched new line of food and beverage products from 100% local ingredients

Mauritius resort prepares all food and beverage products on site using the freshest local ingredients

Mauritius, 2014-2-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita has launched a new line of food and beverage products, where all items are produced from 100% local ingredients and are sourced from within 50 miles (80 kilometres) of the Mauritius resort – creating the name for the newly launched brand of food and beverage products.

With all items being grown in Mauritius, the Resort’s chefs are able to prepare each of the new products from the freshest ingredients to ensure the fullest flavour. The “50 Miles” range includes:

  • Honey – Extracted directly from the bee hive by Executive Chef Thierry Papillier, the Resort has a total of four bee hives within its grounds, which are capable of  producing up to 320 kilograms (700 pounds) of honey every six months. The fresh honey is served during breakfast at Beau Champ restaurant and is also available by the jar (250 grams/9 ounces).
  • Jam – To make the most of the island’s tropical fruits, jams are prepared from fruits growing both within the Resort’s grounds and across the island, with flavours including pineapple and vanilla, banana and cinnamon, and papaya and ginger. These are also offered during breakfast at Beau Champ, or for those wishing to take a taste of the exotic fruits home, the jams are available in 250 gram (9 ounce) jars.
  • Kras masala curry powder – This is one of the most popular local curries, combining ingredients such as coriander, cinnamon, dry chili and turmeric, which are then crushed by hand using a traditional stone pestle and mortar. Guests may discover how to make the curry powder first-hand in a Mauritian cooking class during their vacation, where a sachet of the kras masala powder and recipe are provided.
  • Limoncello – As the home of Acquapazza Italian restaurant, the Resort has long served this popular digestif, but now, as part of the “50 Miles” range, Acquapazza’s Chef Fabio Quarta has created a Mauritian twist on this post-dinner favourite by preparing it with locally produced agricultural rum. The limoncello is available exclusively in Acquapazza in a choice of three different flavours: cream of lemon, chocolate and coffee.

In addition to those products made by the chefs, the “50 Miles” range also features locally grown Pink Pepper andVanilla. Grown in the Resort’s grounds, these ingredients flourish in the warm climate of Mauritius and can now be purchased by guests to add authentic flavour to their own cooking at home.

The founder of “50 Miles” is the Resort’s French Executive Chef Thierry Papillier. Commenting on the launch of the new product line, Thierry says: “Mauritius is blessed with an all year round tropical climate, which provides the perfect growing conditions for many crops. As well as what we serve in our restaurants, we wanted to take advantage of some of these fresh local ingredients to create items that guests can take home with them, to enjoy throughout the year and to remind them of their vacation with us.”
