The program, called START: A Student Artist Immersion, will offer junior and senior high school children the chance to connect to some of the island’s top artists, provide a platform to show art at the Resort’s acclaimed Artists Showcase, teach them about the business of art, and supply a USD 3,000 scholarship to continue their development after graduation. The Resort is currently taking submissions from Maui-based high school juniors and seniors, and will select two recipients.
The START immersion includes:
“We were overwhelmed by the raw talent of the many applicants last year, and selecting two artists was difficult. Mentoring the START recipients Cailyn Omuro and Sophie Salvador was a highlight of my year, and I’m excited to work alongside Four Seasons Resort Maui in supporting this next generation of Maui artists,” says art consultant Rose Potter, Executive Director of Hawaiՙi Contemporary.
To apply, junior and senior high school students should email the following to Rosina.Potter@fourseasons.com by February 21, 2023:
Inaugural START recipient Cailyn Omuro reflects about the program’s impact on her journey. “Through the START program I was able to meet and talk with some of the incredible artists that show their work at Four Seasons. Talking to them and the creator of the program, Rosina Potter, really opened my eyes to the many opportunities and ways in which art and creativity can be utilized,” she says. “The START program was an amazing experience that strengthened my passion for creativity and helped influence my decision to study art in college.”
The Resort looks forward to announcing this year’s recipients on March 1, 2023.
