Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas Hosts 28th Annual Cool October Events for Cancer Center at Baylor Medical Center at Irving, Texas

Resort’s community relations program committed to fighting cancer in the city it serves.

Dallas, U.S.A., 2012-09-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas celebrates its 28th year of fighting cancer in its community by raising money for treatment and awareness of the disease among local citizens. To date, Cool October sporting and social events have contributed more than USD 2.3 million to the Irving Healthcare Foundation in support of the Cancer Center at Baylor Medical Center at Irving, the city’s only not-for-profit hospital. Since 1992, every advancement in treatment at the Cancer Center has been funded in part by proceeds from these events.

Cool October consists of a series of public and private fundraising events held throughout the month that collectively raise more than USD 100,000 for the cause each year. The excitement and passion behind the events are driven by the more than 700 employees of the Resort and the supportive corporate sponsors and private members of The Sports Club at Four Seasons. Cool October is inspired by the story of Canadian Terry Fox, who lost his life to cancer at a young age, but not before he awoke a nation to the need for cancer research through his cross-Canada run, known as the Marathon of Hope.

This year’s fundraising events include:

• October 1–31: Cool On-line Auction – In partnership with the Irving Healthcare Foundation, the auction is filled with great items, trips, sports memorabilia, dining and services.
• October 19: Cool Tennis Marathon and Cocktail Kick-off – Tennis pros at the Resort play tennis non-stop with members and guests who sponsor them throughout the day. The day ends with a celebratory cocktail party at The Sports Club.
• October 20 : Cool Spin-a-Thon – Join Sports Club members for six hours of non-stop spinbike exercise led by Group Exercise Director Michelle Scannell at The Sports Club.
• October 22: Cool 18 Golf Tournament and Golf Marathon – A competitive golf event open to sponsors of Cool October played on the TPC Four Seasons, and a 90+ hole golf marathon byFour Seasons golf professionals raising money through pledges and donations.
• October 27: Cool 5K & 10K Run – A competitive run and festival staged at the Resort’s employee parking lot and open to the public. This run attracts nearly 1,000 participants, including runners, volunteers, friends and families. Run registration is on-line.

In addition to these amazing events, Four Seasons Resort and Club will also be offering a special “Pink Drink” during the entire month of October in support of breast cancer awareness as part of a larger national beverage promotion. The Saint Sparkles (alcoholic) and Lemon Berry Mocktail (non-alcoholic) will be available at Bar 19 and the Terrace Lounge, with USD 2.00 of each drink purchase being donated to the Irving Healthcare Foundation.

Proceeds from Cool October 2012 support the latest in cancer treatment technology with patient information mapping software, a breast cancer patient navigator, remote access project for physician coordination, an interactive pen display for oncologists, as well as education and outreach programs. Past funds have supported:

• A genetic counselor (research and consultation) and RN cancer patient coordinator for patient treatment plans
• Full field digital mammography at two Baylor Medical Center Irving campuses
• MammoSite therapy, used to reduce the length of radiation therapy in breast cancer from six weeks to five days
• Prima Ultrasound Unit, used in the treatment of prostate cancer
