2013-06-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahment Honoured in Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards 2013. Hotel captures the prize as the Best International Heritage Hotel.

Readers of Lonely Planet Magazine India (LPMI)have namedFour Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet as the Best Heritage Hotel in International Hotel category.

For the second year running, Lonely Planet Magazine India invited the country’s travellers to choose their favourite destinations, preferred travel facilitators and most treasured travel experiences. Nominations for some of the awards were shortlisted by a panel of travel experts and professionals, and LPMI readers voted both online and in the magazine.

The LPMI Travel Awards 2013 were held this month in Mumbai and Félix Murillo, general manager of Four Seasons Hotel Sultanahmet, attended the ceremony, receiving the award for Best Heritage Hotel category from Bollywood actor Aditya Roy Kapoor. “It was a very good feeling to go to Mumbai to receive this prestigious award on behalf of all our employees. It is an honour for Four Seasons, and the hospitality industry in Turkey, to be recognized among the world’s very best. Harika!” he said.

Commenting on the Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards 2013, Tarun Rai, CEO, Worldwide Media Ltd, said, “The Indian traveller is getting more adventurous and is experimenting with newer experiences. He is also becoming more discerning and demanding. And the travel industry has risen to meet the demands of this traveller. We are very happy to get the travel and tourism industry together to felicitate their efforts. The Lonely Planet Magazine IndiaTravel Awards, like the magazine, have established a new benchmark in recognizing the industry’s efforts. Our readers have voted in large numbers, across more than 40 categories, to celebrate the best in travel.”

Set in the historical peninsula, Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet is an intimate retreat of just 65 rooms and suites located in a former prison in the centre of Istanbul’s Old Town. The three-storey, neo-classic building wraps around a landscaped, courtyard garden – formerly the prisoners’ exercise yard – and neighbours some of the city’s most impressive historical monuments. In keeping with this privileged location, the Hotel’s interiors and decoration pay homage to the city’s rich Ottoman heritage. Shuttered windows and arched doorways open to reveal well-lit, uncluttered spaces; decorative Ottoman artefacts and antique rugs are incorporated among neoclassical furniture and welcoming Turkish sofas. The resulting effect exudes an easy, homely ambiance that belies the exclusivity of the address.
