Four Seasons Hotel Houston’s Moroccan Chef Hassan Obaye creates End of Ramadan Dinner

2013-08-02— /travelprnews.com/ — At the end of Ramadan, the greatest religious observance in Islam and an annual month of fasting each day from sunrise until sunset, there comes Eid al-Fitr, known as the Festival of Fast Breaking.

This year, that festival comes to the downtown Four Seasons Hotel Houston on Friday, August 9, 2013 when Moroccan-born Banquet Chef Hassan Obaye creates a sumptuous Middle Eastern feast to commemorate the holiday. The buffet feast, to be held in the Hotel’s ballroom, begins at 7:00 pm. The cost is USD 70.00 for adults and USD 33.00 for children 12 and under, plus tax and gratuity.

Included in the celebratory event will be chermoula salmon, rass el hanout rubbed lamb and a wide selection of popular mezze(appetizer-sized foods).

Around the world, Eid al-Fitr involves many Muslims waking up early and praying either at an outdoor prayer ground or a mosque. Many dress in their finest clothes and adorn their homes with lights and other decorations. Special foods are prepared and friends or relatives are invited to share the feast. Gifts and greeting cards are exchanged and children receive presents.

Because the celebration is dictated by the confirmed sighting of the new moon, there is no way designate a date in advance on the Gregorian calendar, and the actual date it begins varies around the world. In Houston, this confirmed sighting may happen on Wednesday or Thursday, but the feasting often goes on for three days, regardless. Friday is also a day of worship and feasting.
