2012-12-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — The UK’s largest transport operator, FirstGroup, today revealed that it has donated £10,000 this Christmas to its national charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Rather than sending traditional Christmas cards this year, First has posted a Christmas message on its website, including a reference to Macmillan. As a token of the savings made, First donated an extra £10k to its charity partner.
Macmillan became First’s charity partner earlier this year after staff voted overwhelmingly to help the Macmillan team to reach even more people affected by cancer. Just four months into the partnership, more than £50k has been raised.
“Staff at our bus and rail companies up and down the country took part in Macmillan’s flagship fundraising event, ‘the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning,’ said Katie Smart, FirstGroup’s CSR and Community Manager. “Combined with our corporate donations, Macmillan has benefited from £50k worth of funding – a great start to the partnership.”
Eleanor Walker, Corporate Partnership Account Manager, at Macmillan said: “On behalf of everybody at Macmillan, I would like to say a huge thank you to FirstGroup for its kind donation. We are all really looking forward to embarking on this journey with First and working together to make a difference. Through its transport services First provides the perfect platform for Macmillan to reach the local community and this will help us achieve our goals of reaching everybody affected by cancer and providing support every step of the way.”
