Aberdeen, Scotland, 2017-Feb-16 — /Travel PR News/ — Local bus operator, First Eastern Counties, is continuing to simplify bus travel in Norwich by bringing red buses back to the streets of the city as part of its continuing investment in its Norwich bus network.
A fleet of fourteen high-specification double deck buses are replacing the current ‘Red Line’ fleet. These buses are equipped with leather seating, and engines which meet Euro5 emission regulations, ensuring that Norwich benefits from cleaner air. The ‘Red Line’ fleet will prominently display the colour red on their livery, completing the ‘Network Norwich’ colour-coded network.
This initiative is the next phase of First Eastern Counties’ investment in its Norwich bus operation, which has seen eleven new single deck buses delivered for the ‘Green Line’, and nine new double deck buses introduced onto the ‘Pink Line’ in the past twelve months. In addition, twenty-five of the existing fleet has been refurbished with leather seating and painted with coloured fronts. Further investment in the fleet is planned during the next twelve months to help sustain the continuing growth in passengers using the bus.
The ‘Red Line’ services provide a cross-city link between Costessey, Heartsease, and Thorpe St Andrew, serving Dereham Road, Plumstead Road, and Norwich railway station. With buses running up to every seven minutes on weekdays, it is one of the most frequent routes in Norwich.
Steve Wickers, Managing Director of First Eastern Counties said “We are proud to be introducing these buses to Norwich. We have now invested in over thirty vehicles for the fleet in the past twelve months, and continue to look at ways to improve our services further. The ‘Red Line’ is one of our most-high profile services, serving the people of Costessey, Heartsease, and Thorpe St Andrew”.
The colour red is historically linked bus travel in Norwich, stretching back to the maroon livery used by ‘Norwich Electric Tramways’ dated from the 1900s onwards. When Eastern Counties was formed in the early 1930s, it adopted a red livery which was applied to its bus fleet. Red buses ran in Norwich for over sixty years until the mid-1990s, when Eastern Counties was purchased by GRT Holdings.
