Helsinki Airport will introduce an additional lobby for the luggage of Schengen flights. Therefore, arriving passengers must always check the terminal monitor (immediately after exiting the airplane) for the luggage pickup location and exit route.
2013-02-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — “When you exit the airplane and enter the terminal, you should first check the monitor for the correct lobby and then follow the signs to the correct location,” says Marko TikkanenDeputy Director of Finavia’s Helsinki Airport terminal operations.
Last year, Finavia implemented a massive sign project at Helsinki Airport. One of the goals was to improve the signs for arriving passengers. The bright Exit signs are now clearly distinguishable from the signs for departing passengers and guide arriving passengers to the correct luggage lobby.
In addition to the sign project, Finavia has prepared for the introduction of the additional lobby for Schengen flights in terminal 2 by developing the presentation method and announcements of flight data monitors, by providing the staff with training and by reserving personnel to guide arriving passengers.
As the volume of passengers and luggage has increased, Lobby 2A (for Schengen flights) has become too small, especially during peak hours. This has affected passenger comfort and service quality.
“Lobby 2B was previously used for long-distance flights only, but now 2B is also available alongside 2A in peak hours, we can distribute the volume of passengers and luggage in Terminal 2 more evenly,” says Tikkanen.
The additional lobby for Schengen flights will be introduced gradually. At first, the passengers of only a few flights from Schengen countries will be routed to 2B. The number of flights will increase as we obtain more experience in the new operating method and its functionality.
Tikkanen points out that those receiving passengers should also check the monitor for the correct arrival lobby.
