Finavia invests in services aimed at departing passengers in Oulu

2012-11-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — Finavia Corporation continues to develop the airport terminal in Oulu. Finavia will begin renewing the services and facilities for departing passengers at Oulu airport in the New Year. The aim is to improve customer service by improving the efficiency of the airport’s departure hall.

The estimated cost of the project is approximately EUR 2.6 million, and it will be one of the most significant investments in Finavia’s network of airports in 2013. The work is due to be completed by 2014. The development investment in Oulu is a continuation of the investments Finavia has made in Oulu Airport in recent years.

The investment consists of several measures promoting the smoother operation of Oulu Airport. In the project, the existing facility use of the terminal’s departure hall will be changed. Finavia will also provide more automatic readers for air carriers and passengers to support check-in and baggage handling and speed up departures. During the project, baggage carousels and x-ray machines will also be replaced. In addition to this, security check points that are important for fight safety will be renewed so that the process specified by the authorities functions as efficiently as possible from the passenger point of view.

”We want to continue investing in Oulu Airport. In recent years, air traffic has developed briskly in Oulu, placing new requirements on the operations of the airport. Although the growth of recent years cannot be expected in the near future, Finavia wants to ensure that the second largest airport in Finland stays competitive and cost-efficient, supporting the economic development of all of Northern Finland,” says Finavia Director Joni Sundelin.

Air passengers are advised to prepare for the renovation project, which will have a potential impact on the operations of Oulu Airport during 2013. Finavia will communicate the potential impact in more detail to passengers in the terminal and on the website of Oulu Airport as the project progresses: http://www.finavia.fi/lentoasemat/lentoasema_oulu.

In 2011, the passenger volume of Finavia’s Oulu Airport was almost one million. During January–September this year the total number of passengers was 840,000, of which almost one-fifth travelled abroad.

Currently, Finnair, Norwegian and Blue1/SAS have frequent route connections with Oulu Airport.
