Finavia and EANS explore opportunities for closer co-operation

Vantaa, Finland, 2015-10-21 — /Travel PR News/ — Finavia and EANS, the air navigation service providers in Finland and Estonia, continue to assess opportunities for closer co-operation.

The assessment of co-operation opportunities is based on the political goal of the Finnish and Estonian governments to increase the efficiency and safety of the management of airspace in the region.

Opportunities for closer co-operation have been investigated in the preliminary survey stage of the FINEST project launched by the air navigation service providers following the policies announced by the two governments.

Based on the preliminary survey, closer co-operation between Finnish and Estonian air navigation services could improve cost-efficiency. Co-operation can facilitate the creation of more efficient solutions that would benefit both parties in the areas of training, support services, airspace control and technical collaboration in air navigation services.

Finavia and EANS have presented the project’s preliminary results to their respective owner states. If the governments consider closer co-operation between the two companies justified on the basis of the preliminary assessment, Finavia and EANS will continue to investigate the matter in 2016. The EU is pursuing improvements in efficiency and safety throughout its regional airspace through the Single European Sky process. The process is aimed at increasing consistency between the operating models used by service providers in different countries, as well as controlled market liberalisation.

The goal is to reduce the costs incurred by the aviation sector from air navigation services, thereby influencing the cost pressures on air tickets and further improving safety. Finavia reviews the progress of the FINEST project on a regular basis with employee organisations and communicates on the topic in channels such as its intranet.
