2012-08-09 — /travelprnews.com/ — Effective midnight Tuesday, August 8, 2012, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is suspending use of Opposite Direction Runway Operations at all applicable airports throughout the United States. The FAA Air Traffic Control Tower at LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT) notified airport management this afternoon that this suspension will include ONT’s nighttime Contra-flow Operations. This suspension will be in effect until the FAA obtains further validation of the Opposite Direction Operation procedure.
Communities adjacent to ONT are advised that all aircraft operations will be affected during ONT’s contra-flow hours from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. These flight operations will now depart to the west, similar to normal, daytime westerly-flow Operations.
For further information regarding the temporary suspension of the Opposite Direction Runway Operations, please contact the FAA Public Affairs Office at (425) 227-2004.
To register a comment regarding airport noise, the public may call (909) 937-2719, 24 hours a day or submit a complaint online at the Noise Management section of ONT’s Internet website at www.lawa.org/welcome_ont.aspx?id=988.
ONT is located in the Inland Empire, approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles in the center of Southern California. It is a medium-hub, full-service airport with commercial jet service to 15 major U.S. cities and through service to many international destinations. There are approximately 114 daily flights offered by seven air carriers.
