Local Enterprise Network Offers Government Agencies Affordable, Sustainable Transportation
ST. LOUIS, 2014-10-3 — /Travel PR News/ — The General Services Administration (GSA) has selected Enterprise CarShare as a contracted car-sharing vendor for a pilot program in Washington D.C., New York City, Boston and Chicago. The initial one-year program will provide government agencies and their employees the opportunity to access car-sharing services 24/7 in these four cities.
“Car-sharing initiatives help federal agencies reduce costs, improve service and optimize their use of vehicles,” said Bryan Scott, who coordinates with federal offices and government agencies for Enterprise Holdings, the world’s largest car rental company. “Through this program, government agencies can test-drive car sharing in the coming months to experience how it meets their transportation needs.”
Enterprise CarShare is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly supplement to government fleets, and – backed by Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s award-winning customer service – it delivers a convenient and reliable transportation option. Enterprise CarShare is a natural extension of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car network, which has more than 5,500 offices located within 15 miles of 90 percent of the U.S. population. This neighborhood network uniquely positions Enterprise to give consumers, businesses and government agencies unmatched flexibility and dependability in meeting local mobility needs.
Government Support
The GSA manages one of the largest federal fleets in the U.S. government. Car sharing allows flexibility and short-term access to vehicles, and provides a more sustainable approach to government fleet management.
This contract continues a longstanding relationship between Enterprise and the GSA. In fact, GSA has sought the assistance of Enterprise through existing programs over the years to help mobilize the efforts of government relief workers in the event of natural disasters. The Enterprise neighborhood network has proven uniquely prepared to respond to the needs of thousands of communities whenever disaster strikes. For example, both the National League of Cities and New York Gov. Cuomo’s office have praised Enterprise for its leadership in disaster recovery efforts. Government Executive magazine also recognized Enterprise in its “Crisis Management: Storm Surge” article last year.
In addition, Enterprise Holdings – the parent company of Enterprise Rent-A-Car – was awarded the car rental industry’s very first GSA Schedule Contract to provide supplemental rental vehicles in 2006. Enterprise Holdings is the GSA’s top rental car provider through the agency’s Rental Supplemental Vehicle Program.
Enterprise has a strong track record of supporting other U.S. government agencies, in addition to its work with the GSA. Most recently, the Navy Exchange Service Command awarded the company a new two-year contract as the rental car vendor at 18 Navy and Marine Corps Exchange locations.
The partnership gives personnel at those locations on-base access to car rentals and car-sharing services. And, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the leading supplier for U.S. Government managed car rental programs.
“The success of these programs is proof of the strength of the Enterprise car rental network, and of Enterprise’s commitment to make sure our government partners – whether at the federal or local level – have the local transportation resources and infrastructure they need to fulfill their missions,” said Scott. “We look forward to working with the GSA to strengthen this partnership, and to giving federal employees a chance to experience how Enterprise CarShare can be an effective, affordable travel option.”
Enterprise has played a well-documented leadership role in providing affordable, accessible and sustainable transportation options. In fact, the company has been delivering local transportation alternatives since 1957, an early example of today’s “collaborative consumption” trend. Forty years later, it trademarked the term Virtual Car®, after recognizing the long-term impact of such a sustainable neighborhood-based business model. By 2008, Enterprise was offering car sharing in collaboration with local municipal governments under the name WeCar by Enterprise. Today, Enterprise CarShare is available right where people live and work in more than 35 U.S. states, Canada and the U.K., on more than 90 university campuses and on 40 government and business campuses.
