(PRESS RELEASE) Dubai, UAE, 2024-Sep-23 — /Travel PR News/ — Emirates has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the reach of rugby across Asia by announcing a multi-year partnership as the Title Sponsor of Asia Rugby. The collaboration will support the development and organization of rugby tournaments, including 7s and 15s series, as well as Asia Rugby Championships, spanning 36 countries across the continent.

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, emphasized the airline’s long-standing support for rugby, stating, “We’re proud to extend our involvement with Asia Rugby, helping to bring the sport into new markets and nurture young athletes across the region. This partnership aligns with our goal of empowering communities and fostering the next generation of talent.”

Asia Rugby President, His Excellency Qais Al-Dhalai, hailed the collaboration as a significant step in the growth of the sport. He noted, “With Emirates’ backing, we are set to introduce rugby to a wider audience and strengthen its appeal in Asia. Our shared mission is to build a thriving fanbase and talent pipeline for years to come.”

The partnership covers 21 major tournaments over the next three years, including the Asia Rugby Men’s and Women’s Championships and Sevens Series. Emirates’ iconic “Fly Better” branding will feature prominently at these events, reinforcing the airline’s global presence in the rugby world. The first of these tournaments, the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series, kicks off in Hangzhou, China, on 21 September 2024.

Asia Rugby, based in Dubai, represents 36 member unions, including countries such as China, India, Japan, and Sri Lanka. The organization manages a range of Sevens and Fifteens competitions, offering pathways to prestigious global events like the Rugby World Cup and the Olympic Games.

With Asia accounting for 60% of the world’s population, the partnership aims to capitalize on this vast potential to cultivate a new generation of rugby players and fans. Emirates’ extensive rugby sponsorship portfolio also includes long-standing involvement in events such as the Rugby World Cup, Emirates Dubai 7s, and support for local rugby in the UAE.

This partnership marks a major step in both the airline and Asia Rugby’s shared goal of growing the sport across the continent, empowering athletes, and building a strong community of rugby enthusiasts.
