Emirates Expands Virtual Training Platform for Cabin Crew Safety Procedures with MIRA

(IN SHORT) Emirates is expanding its virtual training platform, MIRA, to include Safety & Emergency Procedures (SEP) training for its cabin crew. The platform, designed to meet aviation safety standards, will allow Emirates’ nearly 23,000 cabin crew members to complete their recurrent SEP training virtually, covering essential procedures such as aircraft door operations and firefighting skills. The virtual training will be available in immersive 3D or accessible in 2D formats, offering flexibility for crew members to practice anytime, anywhere. This move aims to enhance crew competency, reduce costs, and offer a more efficient training experience as the airline continues to grow.

(PRESS RELEASE) Dubai, UAE, 2024-Oct-16 — /Travel PR News/ — Emirates is extending its immersive virtual training platform, MIRA, to enhance safety training for its cabin crew. This cutting-edge technology, which has already transformed employee experiences, will now support the airline’s nearly 23,000 cabin crew members in completing their annual Safety & Emergency Procedures (SEP) training.

Designed to meet GCAA and global aviation safety standards, the virtual training platform replicates photorealistic cabins of Emirates’ Airbus A380, Boeing 777, and Airbus A350 aircraft. The simulation includes realistic emergency equipment, such as slides and extinguishers, and accurately modeled scenarios featuring fire outbreaks, door operations, and more. Crew members will navigate these high-risk scenarios through a mix of self-guided modules and multiplayer simulations, ensuring they are fully prepared for emergency procedures in-flight.

The initiative will initially focus on two core areas: aircraft door operations and firefighting skills. Correct handling of aircraft doors, a crucial task for cabin crew, is tested through simulated drills to assess competency in normal and emergency conditions. Similarly, virtual firefighting exercises simulate common fire scenarios onboard, enabling cabin crew to practice using extinguishers in a safe but lifelike environment.

Captain Bader Al Marzooqi, Senior Vice President Flight Training, explained: “With Emirates’ ambitious plans for growth, including 315 new aircraft on order and cabin crew numbers expected to reach 30,000 by 2030, scaling up efficient and effective safety training is essential. The expansion of SEP training onto MIRA allows us to deliver advanced, scalable training that will prepare our crew for any emergency situation.”

The MIRA platform also offers flexibility, allowing crew members to complete training anytime, anywhere. Its 3D modules can be accessed via virtual reality headsets, while a 2D version is available on mobile devices, laptops, and desktops, giving crew the freedom to practice and refresh their skills outside traditional training venues.

By moving SEP training into the virtual world, Emirates aims to enhance both the safety of its operations and the confidence of its cabin crew, while realizing significant cost and environmental savings. The platform also allows new recruits to familiarize themselves with emergency procedures in a stress-free environment, reinforcing their skills through repetition.

This innovative use of MIRA represents Emirates’ continued commitment to integrating advanced technologies into its operational processes, preparing its crew to meet the highest safety standards as the airline continues to expand.
