Educators invited to informational forum on zoo’s master’s degree program

WHAT – 2012-11-04 — /travelprnews.com/ — Woodland Park Zoo and Project Dragonfly at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio will present a public informational forum this November on the Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP), a unique master’s degree program for educators.

Co-delivered by Woodland Park Zoo and Miami University, the AIP combines workshops with zoo professional education staff and web-based graduate courses through Miami University to connect students to a broad network of educators and community leaders. Coursework also provides opportunities to travel abroad, including a conservation field course in Borneo.

Prospective students are encouraged to attend the forum to learn more about enrollment opportunities in either a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in the Biological Sciences or a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Zoology from Miami University.

The informational forum includes a presentation followed by a question and answer session with Woodland Park Zoo staff, snacks, and a live animal encounter.

INFO As one of four national Master’s Institutions for the AIP, Woodland Park Zoo offers local Washington learners the chance to take part in this new program featuring teacher professional development courses offered on zoo grounds and around the Pacific Northwest. Students take courses, build local connections, receive individualized mentoring, and share their work at the zoo and in their community. Students also join fellow students, AIP faculty, and leaders across the U.S. in web-based learning communities for collaborative research and national inquiry projects.

Enrollment is open to applicants with a bachelor’s degree regardless of academic major or profession. The AIP can be completed part-time while working, and is designed for teachers and a broad range of professionals from nonprofit, business, and government settings.
