Edmonton International Airport joins the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network

YEG to launch the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program to increase accessibility, awareness and compassion for people with invisible disabilities

Edmonton, AB, 2022-Oct-20 — /Travel PR News/ — Edmonton International Airport (YEG) strives to create an accessible and welcoming environment for everyone. As part of this commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, YEG has partnered with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, an internationally recognized program that provides Sunflower-branded items for passengers to wear to discreetly indicate to people around the wearer that they may need additional support, help or simply more time.

“Part of our commitment to creating a safe environment is making the airport accessible for everyone. We are excited to partner with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and join a network of businesses working to create more accessible and enjoyable experiences for everyone.”

–  Steve Maybee, Vice President Operations, Infrastructure and Corporate Communications

“I am delighted that Edmonton International Airport has joined the global Sunflower network and taking part in shaping a world where people with invisible disabilities feel confident to travel independently.”

–  Paul White, CEO, Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Invisible disabilities can come in many forms. They can be physical, mental or neurological and include, but are not limited to, autism, ADHD, cognitive disabilities such as learning difficulties and dementia, mental health conditions, speech challenges, and auditory and visual conditions. They can also include respiratory and chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, chronic pain and sleep disorders.

Passengers at YEG can request a free and reusable Sunflower lanyard, wristband or ribbon to wear throughout their journey, and that will discreetly indicate to airport staff that the person needs help, support or a little extra time and patience. Passengers can pick up their Hidden Disabilities Sunflower branded items on site at the YEG Information Booth on the Arrivals Level (see Terminal Map).
