Maureen McCaw elected Chairperson
Edmonton, AB, 2015-12-4 — /Travel PR News/ — Edmonton Regional Airports Authority (Edmonton Airports) is pleased to announce the 2016 appointments to its Board of Directors. The new appointments continue to build on the already strong governance and community leadership commitment of the Board.
As a financially independent, not-for-profit corporation, the Edmonton Airports Board has attracted some of the Edmonton Metro Region`s strongest leaders to oversee the organization’s strategic direction, with operating earning revenues in excess of $205 million annually and providing service to more than 8 million passengers. Edmonton Airports is a strong economic leader, delivering a total regional economic impact of $2.2 billion annually.
Effective January 1, 2016, Edmonton Airports will welcome a new Board Chair, Maureen McCaw, a long-standing member of the Board.
Ms. McCaw will replace Tom Redl as Board Chair, following completion of his eligible 8-year term on the Board. Under Mr. Redl’s tenure, Edmonton Airports benefitted from his vast business development and construction experience. EIA has experienced unprecedented growth with passenger volumes increasing from 6.4 million in 2008 to more than 8 million in 2014. During this same period, Mr. Redl was instrumental in overseeing a $670 million expansion, and helped to welcome new passenger and cargo services which are today helping Edmonton Airports customers reach over 60 destinations and markets.
Welcome Incoming Chair Maureen McCaw, ICD.D
Ms. McCaw was elected by her fellow Board members to the position of Chair for a two-year term commencing January 1, 2016. Ms. McCaw is Past Executive Vice-President (Alberta) of Leger Marketing, formerly Criterion Research Corp., a company she founded in 1986. Ms. McCaw has extensive senior board experience, including current positions as Director of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Chair of the CBC Pension Fund Plan Board of Trustees. She also serves on the Board of Suncor Energy. Ms. McCaw is strongly committed to community and works with a number of community endeavours including the Nature Conservancy of Canada (Alberta Region), the EPCOR Community Essentials Council and the Faculty of Business Advisory Council at MacEwan University. Ms. McCaw is also Past Chair of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. Ms. McCaw is a resident of the City of Edmonton.

New Directors
Suromitra Sanatani
Ms. Sanatani has been appointed by the City of Edmonton to serve a four-year term commencing January 1, 2016. Ms. Sanatani has served in executive positions and has been a board member for numerous organizations. She was chair of the Royal BC Museum, a director of Canadian Blood Services and the Victoria Airport Authority, and was a member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is the former vice president of corporate and government relations with Partnerships BC and also served as vice president, BC and Yukon, for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. Currently, she is a director for Canadian Blood Services as well as the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. A lawyer by training, Ms. Sanatani worked in litigation before transferring her skills into the corporate and nonprofit sectors.
Joan Hertz, Q.C, ICD.D
Ms. Hertz has been appointed by the City of Edmonton to serve a four-year term commencing January 1, 2016. Ms. Hertz is currently the Vice President External Affairs and Corporate Counsel for Norquest College. She has previously served as a lawyer and strategic consultant in private practice, and as Corporate Counsel, Strategic Affairs for Capital Health. Ms. Hertz has been an Independent Director, Chairman of the Governance & Conduct Review Committee and Member of Risk Committee of ATB Financial since 2008. She has also served as a public member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta Council, the Alberta Accountants Unification Agency and the Provincial Judicial Council. She serves as a Director of Alberta’s Promise and formerly with Kid’s Kottage Foundation, and Edmonton Catholic Cemeteries Board.
Also effective January 1, 2016, Edmonton Airports is pleased to announce that Ralph Young will commence his second four-year term on Edmonton Airports’ Board after being reappointed by the City of Edmonton.
Retiring Directors
In addition to the retirement of Mr. Redl, Edmonton Airports is also grateful for the service and leadership of Ms. Anne McLellan, P.C., O.C., A.O.E, who will also retire from the Board this year. A senior legal advisor and past Deputy Prime Minister, Ms. McLellan has been a strong senior advisor and strategic leader whose contributions have helped to steer Edmonton Airports through years of strong growth and development.

Under the Regional Airports Authorities Act, the Board of Directors is responsible for the stewardship, strategic direction and oversight of the business and affairs of Edmonton Airports. The Board of Directors consists of a maximum of 15 members.
