Dartmouth is crowned the number one coastal location across the UK

LONDON, 2021-Jul-28 — /Travel PR News/ — It seems as though the staycation boom isn’t going anywhere any time soon, as airlines cash in on the boom increasing their domestic routes

From breath-taking views to historic cities, there is so much to explore right on your doorstep.

However, with so many places to visit in the UK, it can be quite overwhelming to decide where to go.

That’s why here at Perfect Stays we’ve rounded up the top and bottom five coastal locations according to TikTok*. With TikTok influencing many trends over the last year, we sought to analyse which coastal areas are deemed the most popular due to the number of views on each location’s hashtag.

Top Five/Bottom Five Coastal Locations According to TikTok
Location Hashtag views # Location Hashtag views
Dartmouth 47.4M 1 Bardsea 290
St Ives 47.1M 2 Nefyn 8803
Salcombe 41.3M 3 Cromarty 15,000
Crosby 25.5M 4 Saltburn-by-the-Sea 101,900
Tobermory 15.1M 5 Hunstanton 271,600

The number one coastal area across the UK is Dartmouth, Devon, reaching 47.4M views on TikTok.

Located on the stunning River Dart, this ancient market town is steeped in history. With its quiet secluded coves, long expanses of golden sands, home to Blue Flag winning beach Blackpool Sands and award-winning restaurants, it’s no wonder this is the number one destination.

Following closely in second place is St Ives, Cornwall with 47.1M views. Only recently named one of the world’s top emerging destinations due to its picturesque harbour, beautiful beaches and buzzing art scene, it’s easy to see why St Ives is one of the top destinations to visit.

Salcombe, Devon is named the third top coastal destination with 41.3M views. One of the true gems of South Devon and famous for its crab – even hosting a crab festival – you’ll be spoiled for choice in Salcombe.

With seascapes that blend into the sky, renowned seafood restaurants and endless beach options, there are fewer places in the UK as enchanting.

Crosby, Merseyside (25.5M) and Tobermory, Scotland (15.1M) complete the top five coastal locations in the UK according to TikTok views.

At the other end of the scale, Bardsea, Cumbria is deemed the least attractive coastal destination with only 290 views on TikTok.

Despite being close to the Lake District National Park, the strong currents at Bardsea Beach make it unsuitable for swimming and could contribute to its low numbers.

Following closely, Nefyn, a small seaside resort in North Wales is ranked the second-least favourable coastal location according to TikTok, with just over 8800 views.

While Nefyn is best known for its beautiful unspoilt seafront, clean sea and sandy beaches, only this year disaster struck after a cliff collapsed onto a section of Nefyn beach causing a massive clean-up operation, spoiling the otherwise charming seaside town.

Cromarty, Scotland (15K), Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire (101.9K) and Hunstanton, Norfolk (271.6K) complete the bottom five coastal areas across the UK.

Josh Wildeman, Marketing Manager of Perfect Stays commented:

“2021 has become the year of the staycation and it’s unsurprising to see the UK public looking for holiday inspiration after being couped up for over a year.

“It’s great to see so much interest in visiting the South West. With fantastic scenery, great food and an abundance of activities and tourist hotspots for everyone of all ages, you’ll never be bored, but make sure to book up far in advance.”
