2012-10-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — Copenhagen Airport aims to retain and expand its position as Europe’s best airport shopping experience. For this purpose, all the airport’s duty- and tax-free stores will be refurbished as part of a “world-class duty- and tax-free” project which is initiated on 18 October.

Passengers at Copenhagen Airport will have even better and more enjoyable shopping facilities in the future. In the coming months, travellers will see construction walls with the following text: We are building world-class duty- and tax-free stores.

“While the large duty- and tax-free store will be refurbished in several phases, passengers will experience minor space restrictions on their way from security screening and through the store. However, we promise that the new duty- and tax-free store will be worth waiting for,” said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales and Marketing for Copenhagen Airport.

Good shopping experience
The big duty- and tax-free store and the smaller satellite stores in Piers A, B, C and the arrivals hall will be refurbished according to a completely new concept with more events and in-store tasting  with a stronger Danish profile. The concept is one of the reasons why German-based Gebr. Heinemann won the contract to continue operating the duty- and tax-free stores at Copenhagen Airport in a competitive bidding process in the spring of 2012.

“We must constantly create and develop great travel experiences for our passengers. Only by having satisfied passengers can we retain Copenhagen Airport’s international ranking. To that end, we work closely with Gebr. Heinemann to create world-class duty- and tax-free shopping facilities,” said Carsten Nørland.

The big duty- and tax-free store located just after security will be refurbished in three phases during the period ? until 1 March 2013. This means that the store will be open and fully functional throughout the period, but with a little less space, and the shortcut to Pier A and Pier B will be closed temporarily from 17 October to 26 November.

We want customers to see and feel the Copenhagen vibe Gebr. Heinemann currently operates more than 230 stores in 48 international airports in 19 countries, including the airports at Frankfurt, Berlin, Oslo and Istanbul. At Copenhagen Airport, Gebr. Heinemann’s new concept is that customers should be able to see and feel that they are in Copenhagen, not in Oslo or Berlin.

“Airports and shops worldwide may be rather anonymous at times. With our new store in Copenhagen, we want to follow the example of Copenhagen Airport and give travellers a clear perception of being in Copenhagen and in Denmark,” said Tore Hov, General Manager of Heinemann Retail Denmark.

For the last three consecutive years, Copenhagen Airport has been rated “Europe’s best shopping experience” by ASQ – Airport Service Quality.
