Madrid, 2012-07-27 — /travelprnews.com/ — Iberia Airlines and the Santander banking Group have signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement intended to benefit the customers of both, chiefly in Latin America.
Iberia will become a strategic partner in the Santander Group’s loyalty programmes, and the points earned by Santander customers can be converted into Iberia “Avios” or frequent flyers’ points.
Co-branded Santander-Iberia bank cards will be issued in the countries in which both companies have important operations. Other commercial actions are under study, including the possible financing of air tickets.
The agreement will involve more than 20 countries. The idea is to consider opportunities in each market and launch the most appropriate actions in each, starting in Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil.
The agreement comes just three months after the two companies launched their co-branded Santander-Iberia Sendo card in Spain. The launch was very well received and enables cardholders to earn Avios to redeem in the form of flights on Iberia, British Airways, Vueling and all airlines in the oneworld alliance, or hotel stays, car rentals, or other services supplied by the partners of the Iberia Plus loyalty programme.
