Community Weekend Discount Offers at ZooAmerica and The Hershey Story Museum

Hershey, Pa., 2013-01-10 — /travelprnews.com/ — Milton S. Hershey wanted to create a model town for the people in his community. Following in his footsteps of giving back to the community, guests visiting ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park and The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue on Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27 receive free or discounted admission.

ZooAmerica offers free admission to all guests that weekend from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Additional parking will be available at the parking garage located on Chocolate Avenue.)

Guests can visit animals from five regions – Southern Swamps, The Great Southwest, Eastern Woodlands, Big Sky Country and Northlands – and experience up-close animal encounters hosted by ZooAmerica naturalists throughout the day. Ranger Scratch, the Zoo’s mascot, will also make a special appearance on both days.

Visitors also can see a new black-billed magpie exhibit in the Big Sky Country region. These beautiful, vocal birds fill the Zoo with new chatter. Black-billed magpies are member of the crow family and can be found in western North America.

In addition, guests can learn how to become more involved in the Zoo and enroll in a ZooAmerica membership and/or Ranger Scratch Kid’s Club. Zoo membership and the Kid’s Club offer a variety of benefits, including a one-year membership to ZooAmerica, food and retail discounts, complimentary newsletters, admission to exclusive events, and more.

The Hershey Story Museum offers free admission to its new special exhibit “Sugar, Spice, Slugs & Snails: Childhood in Early America” on Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests visiting the Museum Experience, which chronicles the life and legacy of Milton Hershey, receive half-off the regular admission price ($10 for regular admission; $9 for seniors ages 62 and older; $7.50 for juniors ages 3 to 12; and free for children 2 and younger).

In the Childhood in Early America exhibit, guests are invited to play with vintage toys and games of the 19th century, including checkers, dominoes and hopscotch. They also will discover how society viewed childhood and the role that economics, education and gender played in growing up. Some of the objects on display in the exhibit are from the Danner Collection, a large Pennsylvania German collection that Milton S. Hershey purchased in 1935.

The Childhood in Early America exhibit will be on display through Monday, May 27.
