Christchurch Airport First Globally to Deploy PACE Airports Real-Time Emissions Platform
(IN SHORT) Christchurch Airport is the first in the world to deploy PACE Airports, a sophisticated emissions monitoring system developed by Fexco. This platform delivers near–real-time data on more than 99 percent of commercial flight emissions—analyzing 370,000 routes and 10 billion data points, including engine-specific CO₂ outputs and local condition adjustments. Building on its Level 5 certification from the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, the airport will use these insights to engage airline partners in data-driven sustainability planning. The initiative complements Christchurch Airport’s existing efforts to reduce on-site emissions and aligns with its role as a global climate action leader.
(PRESS RELEASE) CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand, 2025-Jun-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Christchurch Airport has enhanced its climate leadership by becoming the world’s first airport to implement PACE Airports, a cutting-edge emissions tracking platform. This pioneering step builds on the airport’s status as the first Southern Hemisphere facility to attain Level 5 in the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.
Historically, flight emissions data were compiled annually and segmented into broad categories such as domestic, regional, and long-haul. PACE Airports transforms this approach by delivering near–real-time intelligence on aviation emissions, covering over 99 percent of global commercial routes. The system monitors some 370,000 individual flight paths and analyzes more than 10 billion data points, even differentiating emissions by engine type and adjusting for local operating conditions.
While Christchurch Airport has long focused on curbing its own ground-based carbon footprint, this advanced platform enables in-depth insight into aircraft emissions at their gates. These granular data will guide evidence-based discussions with airline partners and inform strategic decisions on technology transition and sustainability investments across the airport’s wider ecosystem.
Claire Waghorn, Sustainability Transition Leader at Christchurch Airport, commented:
“Our core priority has been reducing our on-site operational emissions and then supporting sector-wide decarbonization. PACE Airports equips us with the detailed aviation emissions data we need to steer our broader sustainability initiatives effectively.”
Developed by Irish fintech and financial services firm Fexco, PACE Airports is already trusted by major banks and aviation financiers for tracking flight-related emissions worldwide. Bertie Murphy, Chief Strategy Officer at Fexco Group, added:
“We are delighted that Christchurch Airport, a recognized leader in sustainable aviation, has adopted our platform. Our goal is to provide the definitive source of aviation emissions data and support our partners in meeting their decarbonization targets.”
By integrating PACE Airports into its operations, Christchurch Airport reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and continues to set new benchmarks for sustainable airport management.
