Christchurch airport adds new UV light kits at screening points

Next time you put your items in the checkpoint security trays before boarding a flight, you’ll get them back disinfected… by rays of light.

Christchurch, New Zealand, 2021-Jun-03 — /Travel PR News/ — Aviation Security has installed a new system at security screening points in the terminal which uses UV Light to automatically disinfect items in the trays on the conveyor belts.

The UV-C Light kits disinfect the trays from all sides, killing 99.9% of bacteria and viruses within seconds. This not only delivers disinfected items back to you, it keeps our team safe as multiple people handle the same trays.

Ultraviolet irradiation has been used for over 100 years to kill germs and other contagions. The process uses short-wavelength UV-C light to kill or inactivate micro-organisms by disrupting their DNA and compromising vital cellular functions.

This same proven technology has been developed into the UV light kits we use for our tray disinfection. The new kits are integrated within the tray system, which are fully automatic and automatically cleaned – in fact, you won’t even see the UV-Light work its magic!

Aviation Security has installed the new UV light kits at screening points in New Zealand airports to give passengers and staff increased confidence as they began travelling again after the pandemic lockdowns. We are pleased to add it to the many health protection measures we take here at Christchurch airport.
