China Airlines Forms Partnerships with NTUT, YunTech and NFU

2012-09-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — China Airlines (CAL), National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT), National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) and National Formosa University (NFU) have signed industry-academia agreements that will offer internships to science and engineering seniors from the three universities at CAL Engineering and Maintenance Organization. The internships will count towards students’ academic credits and CAL will also provide each student with scholarships and allowance amounting to NT$77,000. Interns will have the chance to join CAL upon graduation as well.

To support the Ministry of Education’s policy of encouraging technical colleges and universities to set up external internships, CAL is now stepping up its efforts to cultivate maintenance professionals. Due to the high quality of teachers and students at the science and engineering faculties of NTUT, YunTech and NFU, a consensus was reached after extensive discussion and visits between CAL and the three universities. The signing of the agreement on 11 September will mark the official start of industry-academia partnerships in the maintenance field.

Starting in the 2012 academic year, seniors from electrical / mechanical/ electronics/ chemical/ aviation engineering courses at NTU, YunTech and NFU can be nominated by their universities if they meet the following criteria:

-Top 50% in their program in their junior year
-TOEIC score of over 450
-Good conduct score averaged over 80% over previous years
-No demerits on record

CAL will select 25 students from the list of candidates nominated by each university to take part in partnership program. Successful candidates will undertake an 18-week internship in the second semester of their senior year at the CAL Engineering and Maintenance Organization. In addition to a scholarship of NT$50,000 for each student, CAL will also provide each student with NT$300 as an allowance each day. The total internship subsidy for 18 weeks is therefore around NT$77,000. Upon graduation or completion of national military service, bridging training will also be provided by CAL and students that pass the examination will enjoy be given priority in the hiring of full-time maintenance personnel.

CAL is continuing to introduce leased A330s and B737s due to expanding services. CAL is also expecting deliveries of 14 A350-900XWB passenger aircraft starting in 2016 and the expanding fleet will require more maintenance professionals. CAL will therefore continue to promote industry-academia partnerships to prepare students to enter the maintenance field. CAL is actively recruiting maintenance personnel and interested young persons are welcome to apply.
