Chicago Department of Aviation Receives “Public Body of the Year” Award from CISCO

CHICAGO, 2013-01-30 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) was honored by the Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) with a “Public Body of the Year” award at the labor management association’s annual meeting in Schaumburg on January 25.

According to CISCO, the CDA was chosen as its 2012 “Public Body” award recipient for its management O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP), which has provided thousands of jobs to Chicagoland area union construction workers and contractors.

“On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Department of Aviation, I want to thank CISCO for recognizing our efforts to ensure Chicago’s airports continue to be the economic engines of our region,” said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “Our accomplishments have truly been a team effort. Designers, engineers and laborers have worked collaboratively with us to make OMP a model for how to successfully deliver a massive project safely, on-time and under budget.”

CISCO’s annual “Pride in Construction” awards recognizes the top quality union construction projects in various categories and also honors the efforts of an area educator, Illinois public body and labor conciliator. The other 2012 awardees included:

  • Janice Stoettner, Executive Director, Career Development System (Educator of the Year)
  • John Tribble, Conciliation/Mediation Division Assistant Manager, Illinois Department of Labor (Labor Conciliator of the Year)
  • College of DuPage Homeland Security Education Center (New Construction/Suburbs) – project team general contractor Power Construction; Legat Architects, Inc. and structural engineer Larson Engineering
  • Tollway I-294/I-90 Tri-Level Bridge Project (Rehabilitation) – project team consisted of General Contractor Lorig Construction, Architect Alfred Benesch & Co. and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co.

“We are proud to recognize these projects, organizations and individuals for these prestigious awards,” said CISCO Executive Director John Brining. “The projects we receive each year demonstrate that the union construction industry produces the best product anywhere in the world, and this year was no exception.”

The Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) is a non-profit labor management association. CISCO was founded in 1988 in an effort to bring union construction labor and management representatives together to work cooperatively in order to better the construction industry as a whole. CISCO currently represents over 8,000 union contractors and 140,000 workers in Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane, Kendall and McHenry Counties.
