Celebrate Bike Day on May 15 with Free Metrolink Rides for Cyclists Across Southern California

(IN SHORT) Metrolink is celebrating Bike Day on May 15, 2025, offering free train rides for passengers traveling with bicycles, including on the Arrow service. No ticket is required as a bicycle will serve as the fare. The event encourages sustainable transportation, with bike storage available on most trains and special promotions offered by other regional transit agencies. Metrolink also provides a list of top bike paths for cyclists looking for new adventures.

(PRESS RELEASE) LOS ANGELES, 2025-May-9 — /Travel PR News/ — Metrolink, Southern California’s premier regional passenger rail service, is gearing up for its annual “Bike Day” on Thursday, May 15. On this special day, passengers who board any Metrolink train, including the Arrow service, with a bicycle will enjoy free rides, as no ticket will be required—bicycles themselves will serve as the fare.

“Bikes and public transportation complement each other perfectly,” said Doug Chaffee, Chair of the Metrolink Board. “By bridging the gap between home, train stations, and destinations, bikes provide a vital first- and last-mile connection. Bike Day is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the benefits of these sustainable and active transportation options.”

All Metrolink passengers with bicycles are welcome aboard, provided there is safe and secure bike storage available on the train. Most Metrolink train cars can accommodate up to three bikes, while designated bike cars can hold up to nine. The Arrow trains can carry as many as 12 bikes per car. Single-rider and electric bikes that meet the size and weight limits are eligible to be brought aboard.

For those looking for new cycling adventures, Metrolink’s website features a curated list of the Best Bike Paths accessible via Metrolink. Among these routes are the scenic Mount Rubidoux Trail in Riverside and the Mountains to the Sea Trail in Tustin.

In addition to Metrolink’s Bike Day offering, the Ventura County Transportation Commission will also be waiving fares for all bicycle riders on May 15. LA Metro will provide free rides for all passengers on its bus and rail lines, and the Metro Bike Share program will offer free 30-minute rides at any kiosk or via a promo code (051525) in the app. The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) will host its annual Bike Rally on May 28, beginning at the Orange Metrolink Station, and will hold a contest for a free e-bike package.

Please note that Metrolink’s Codeshare and Rail 2 Rail® programs with Amtrak Pacific Surfliner are not included in the Bike Day promotion. Bicycle reservations and a paid fare are required for bikes aboard Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains.
