Cathy St. Denis appointed Air Line Pilots Association Director of Communications

WASHINGTON, 2014-03-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Today, the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest pilots union in the world, announced that Cathy St. Denis will be joining the association as Director of Communications on April 21, 2014. St. Denis will lead ALPA’s media relations, internal communications, and pilot group support teams in their vigorous mission to promote ALPA’s pilot partisan agenda.

Cathy St. Denis is currently the associate administrator for Public Affairs at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in the Department of Transportation, where she has served since 2009. At FHWA, she developed strategies to support the Administration’s initiatives to invest in infrastructure and create jobs and provided strategic counsel to senior Administration officials.

ALPA president Capt. Lee Moak said of St. Denis: “As ALPA continues to aggressively advocate our pilot partisan agenda, Cathy St. Denis brings to the Air Line Pilots Association, International, the leadership and management skills we need to take our communications game to the next level. We look forward to great things for the piloting profession as a whole with Cathy leading a talented and eager team of communications professionals.”

St. Denis added: “The transition from highways to runways is an exciting chance to join a great organization in ALPA and continue to build on their excellent reputation of advocating on behalf of professional airline pilots.”

Before joining FHWA, St. Denis held numerous positions in the public and private sector, including senior positions at three public affairs firms (Glover Park Group, Widmeyer Communications, and Burson-Marsteller), where her work included developing and executing public service initiatives, brand building, thought leadership, and media relations. St. Denis also served as chief operating officer at the Public Education Network and has worked on political campaigns and on Capitol Hill.

St. Denis has a bachelor of arts in journalism from the University of Illinois and a masters of arts from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing nearly 50,000 pilots at 31 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
