Cathay Pacific statement on union threat to disrupt public’s travel plans over Christmas and New Year

2012-12-05 — /travelprnews.com/ — Cathay Pacific Airways today stressed that the discussion with the Flight Attendants Union (FAU) on year-end arrangements has concluded. The company trusts that the 2% salary increment for 2013 and the discretionary 13th month payment for 2012 is a fair, reasonable and competitive offer in view of the extreme challenges the airline is facing.

Cathay Pacific General Manager Cabin Crew Liza Ng said: “We welcome constructive, sensible discussions to address matters of mutual concern at any time, but certainly not under any type of threat, especially those that will affect our operations, staff, and the travelling public.

“We will continue our ongoing dialogue with the crew community. We are also happy and prepared to meet up with the FAU to discuss further on various lifestyle and operating matters provided that they remove the threat of industrial action.

“I trust most of our cabin crew are considerate and understand the challenging situation the company is in. I am confident that our cabin crew will act professionally and responsibly, as they always do, in serving the travelling public,” Ms Ng said.

Ms Ng said that the company always has contingency plans in place to cope with pressure on its resources arising from different types of disruptions.
