Cathay Group Expands Summer Schedule: Nearly 300 Return Flights Boost Connectivity to 20 Mainland Destinations

(IN SHORT) This summer, the Cathay Group will significantly expand its service between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, offering nearly 300 return flights per week to 20 popular destinations—a nearly 40% increase from last year. This enhanced schedule is designed to meet rising travel demand and offers extensive coverage in strategic regions like Beijing and Shanghai, as well as new direct services to Urumqi. Additionally, Cathay is broadening its global network by adding 13 international destinations in 2025, reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a major aviation hub.

(PRESS RELEASE) HONG KONG, 2025-Mar-27 — /Travel PR News/ — In response to surging two-way travel demand between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, the Cathay Group is set to offer nearly 300 return flights per week during the summer peak, connecting Hong Kong with 20 key Mainland passenger destinations. This expansion significantly strengthens Cathay’s direct services and provides travelers with a wider range of flexible and efficient options.

Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau commented, “We are excited to boost our schedule in the Chinese Mainland this summer with increased frequencies on many popular routes. Our deep roots in Hong Kong, our strong connection to China, and our role as a global connector enable us to deliver a seamless travel experience whether customers are flying to, from, or via our home hub.”

With a strong focus on major strategic regions such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and the Yangtze River Delta, Cathay is significantly enhancing its capacity to offer frequent and well-timed flights. Key highlights include:

Beijing: Seven daily return flights to Beijing Capital International Airport, plus one daily flight to Beijing Daxing International Airport operated by HK Express, totaling 56 return flights per week.

Shanghai: Eight daily return flights to Shanghai Pudong International Airport and 11 weekly return flights to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, bringing the total to 67 return flights per week.

Other Destinations: Routes to Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Haikou, and Chongqing will shift from four return flights per week to daily services—with HK Express providing daily flights to Ningbo—while services to Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wenzhou, and Wuhan see significant increases in frequency.

New Launch: Direct flights between Hong Kong and Urumqi will commence from 28 April.

This comprehensive enhancement—delivering nearly 40% more flights than in 2024—underscores Cathay Group’s commitment to reinforcing Hong Kong’s connectivity with the Chinese Mainland and supporting economic and cultural exchange.

Beyond boosting regional connectivity, the Cathay Group is also expanding its global reach. In 2025, the Group will add 13 new international destinations to its network, including major cities such as Hyderabad, Dallas, Rome, Munich, and Brussels for Cathay Pacific, as well as Sendai, Nha Trang, Ishigaki, Komatsu, Cheongju, Daegu, and Miyako for HK Express. This expansion will see the Group serving over 100 destinations worldwide, ensuring a smooth and integrated travel experience for its customers.
