Cape Town International Airport released final scoping report for realigning the airports runway for public comment

Johannesburg, 2014-7-24 — /Travel PR News/ — Cape Town International Airport proposes to realign its runway and construct parallel and rapid exit taxiways. The realignment of the runway would result in a change in the flight paths used by aircraft approaching or departing the airport, and thus the areas around the airport experiencing high noise levels. SRK Consulting, the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioners who are leading the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on behalf of Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) for realigning the airports runway have released the final scoping report to the public for a 21 day comment period from 11July until 1 August 2014 .

The draft Scoping Report was previously released for a 40-day comment period in November 2013, following which the Scoping Report was updated to produce this final Scoping Report for submission to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).  The Scoping Report aims to identify the key issues and potential impacts to be assessed during the next phase of the EIA process. All interested and affected parties are requested to review the document and make their comments available before 1 August. The executive summary of the scoping report has been distributed directly to all registered stakeholders and copies of the full report are available at neighbouring community libraries, ACSA and SRK offices and can also be located via www.srk.co.za.

“Issues and concerns identified in the Scoping Phase will assist in focussing the EIA and will be used to refine the terms of reference for specialist investigations. We strongly urge the public to take the time to review the report and provide their inputs”, said Deidre Davids Communications Manager, Cape Town International Airport.

Interested and affected parties (IAP) are encouraged to register on the project’s stakeholder database and/or to submit comments on the document. Comments and requests for registration as a stakeholder must be submitted to SRK in writing along with the DEA reference numbers:  14/12/16/3/3/2/446, name, contact details, and an indication of any direct business, financial, personal or other interest you may have in the application, by 1 August 2014. All comments must be submitted to Scott Masson at SRK Consulting via the following means:
