2013-06-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — Babyboomers have emerged as a powerful new consumer segment in the South Korea market, with time on their hands and money to burn. The South Korean office of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) is running a promotion designed with just this 45-year-old-plus demographic in mind, which positions Canada as an ideal destination for those couples seeking a romantic getaway.
“Remind honeymoon” is a broken English term widely used in South Korea to describe middle-aged couples’ special trips to mark wedding anniversaries. CTC-South Korea teamed up with Senior Chosun monthly magazine, which targets upscale readers in Seoul and its suburbs, for the promotion. Couples were asked to submit their love stories to the magazine and then explain why they wanted to go to Canada for their “remind honeymoon.”
The first winning couple were Mrs. Sun-Il Lee & Mr. Pankyou Kim, whose romantic tale won them a six-day trip to British Columbia, accompanied by a Senior Chosun editor and photographer to chronicle the trip in the mag’s July issue. Their romantic sojourn took in Vancouver (including Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain and Granville Island) and Victoria(including the Inner Harbour, Butchart Gardens and afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel.
The application process is still open to find the second “remind honeymoon” couple, whose prize will be a trip to Ontario in August, which will be featured in Senior Chosun in September.
CTC’s Canadian tourism-industry partners for the promotion are Destination British Columbia andOntario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation.
